DESCRIPTION
- Abstract
- MARIA CHABOT TO CHRISTIANE GALLET, Aug. 1962 – Aug. 1964: Thirty-two letters, one post card, one questionnaire regarding events in Gallet's life during Word War II [three sheets, on front and back], and three poems enclosed with these letters are found in this box. The first letter, Aug. 12, 1962, largely consists of a seven page poem. There are two copies of the letter and poem. The second letter, Sept. 19, 1962, mentions photographs by Gallet. Also mentioned are photographs of O'Keeffe by Gallet. Their whereabouts are unknown. On October 20, 1963 Chabot sent Gallet a six page list of questions regarding her life during World War II in Germany. This was in preparation for a book Chabot wanted to write based on Gallet's life. Existing notes and fragments follow the Chabot/Gallet correspondence. The letters of Feb. [15] – 16, 1964; [Feb. 20, 1964]; Feb. 25, 1964; and Feb. 26, 1964 concern O'Keeffe. The first two letters concern a visit by Chabot to O'Keeffe in Abiquiu. The second two letters concern a trip by O'Keeffe to Albuquerque to receive an honorary degree from UNM. Chabot assists O'Keeffe and hosts her overnight; she also tapes an interview with O'Keeffe at this time. The other letters are an affectionate and describe daily life and events.
