DESCRIPTION
- Abstract
- DOROTHY N. STEWART TO HER FAMILY [Letters sent to all her sisters, to be circulated among them] Correspondence from Dorothy Stewart to her family: There are seventeen letters and one postcard from Stewart to her sisters, Feb. 11, [1923] - Sept. 23, 1938. Of these, one was written from Johnson, AZ, and one from Santa Fe. Five were written from various locales in Mexico and ten were written while with Chabot on their trip to Europe. The letters of Dec. 25, 1930, August 8, 1931, and Feb. 16, [1933] from Mexico are illustrated. The incident of the car hauled out of the mud by oxen, related in the Feb. 16 letter, is also described in Dorothy Stewart to Ethel Barr, Feb. 27, 1933, and there are relevant photographs in the Maria Chabot Archives - Dorothy N. Stewart - Photographs. The letters of 1937-1938 concern the European trip with Maria Chabot. The letter of Sept. 19, 1937 has photos pasted in it and an illustration on the back of page 7. The letter of [Dec. 1938] has samples of silk yarn attached to it, and the letter of July 4, 1938 has samples of wool fabric attached. The letters of June 28, 1938 - July 4, 1938 concern D.N.S. and M.C. at Oxford. The one postcard in this group is from Tunis, [Jan. 1938]. There are five undated letters from Stewart to her family from Mexico. The second and fourth letters in this group are illustrated. There are two undated letters from Santa Fe and one undated letter from New York, begun in New York City and finished in Bronxville, NY. In this letter D.N.S. tells of visits to New York Publishers, which may relate it to the trip also described in letters from D.N.S. to Mabel Ludlum, July 6, 1929 and July 9, 1929 and also in undated letters from Stewart to Ludlum.
